Hooker Valley track, landscape wonders in New Zealand

Hooker Valley track, landscape wonders in New Zealand

New Zealand is known either as the country of the All Black’s haka or the landscape of Lord of the Ring but it has a lot more to offer. The Kiwis, nickname used for New Zealand’s inhabitants, live on two wonderful islands with a luxurious eco-system and diversified culture.

From White Horse Hill Campground, head toward Aoraki Mount Cook and reconnect with nature in this green valley. The scenery is worth the 10km of walk under the alpine clouds. Between ice, rock and grass, you will get to see Mueller glacier, the Hooker lake and of course, Aoraki/Mount Cook at the end of the track. The path is relatively easy and enjoyable with three swing bridges. Take a lunch break by the bank of Hooker lake while admiring the imposing Aoraki Mount Cook. You can also find icebergs floating on the lake, becoming scarcer with the years. On your way back to White Horse hill, discover hidden elements that you may have missed in the landscape, such as the Pukaki lake. Visiting the hooker valley is a must for all nature-lovers. You will find rare plants and wildflowers through the track and if you are lucky enough, you can even hear the Kea sing, which is an endangered alpine parrot.

The best moment of the day to walk around the National park would be in the late afternoon, to admire the sunset on the side of the mountains and if you feel like stargazing, the sky of the Hooker Valley offers one of the clearest view in the world. To enjoy your hike to its fullest, be careful of the burning sun during the day and of mosquito bites during the evening!
